I was the first one to post a picture of my finished mittens from the Mystery Mitten KAL. That qualifies me for one of the prizes! The mitten pattern is very quick to do!

Pattern: Mystery Mitten KAL
Yarn: Moda Dea Washable Wool
Needles: US 5
Size: Fits my 7 year old GD

And I got quite a bit done on my Midnight in the Orchid Garden Socks. I CO with 72 sts to make a bit bigger so I could make them a bit longer than my usual socks. These are six inches from top to starting of heel flap. Notice the difference in the yarn patterning. You can pretty much see from just the patterning where I went from 72 sts to 64 sts. I doing a bit of a stitch pattern: R1: K2, YO, K2tog; R2-4: K even. Between the yarn patterning and the stitch pattern there is quite a bit of movemnt in the design.

Today starts the NAS Mitten KAL, so I'll be working on mittens today!

We had a nice thunderstorm yesterday in the early evening during dinner. Lights flickered, and we dug out a bunch of candles. Didn't need them, though. It did cool things down a bit.

Passing By...

I finished up the next clue in the Mystery Mitten KAL. They are turning out quite nicely.

I also finished the heel flap, gusset and decreases on the second Tropical Sock. If all goes well today, perhaps I can finish it.

Some members at Native American Support asked me to head up a Mitten KAL. Seems there are lots of people that don't enjoy knitting mittens or are apprehensive about trying them. So we'll do two KALs at the same time, one for mittens in the round and one for mittens flat. The products of the these mittens will be sent to the Cheyenne River Reservation as part of our Mittnz blitz. It rained quite a bit last night and we again have a swimming pool in the back yard. I'll bet the citrus trees are much happier than the dog who hates to get her feet wet when relieving herself!

I finished up the first shortie sock yesterday. Fits Youngest Daughter perfectly. Will CO 2nd Sock today. I got Clue #2 done on the Mystery Mitten KAL. There were only two cables in the pattern so it wasn't bad. One right and one left leaning on each mitten. I imagine tonight's clue will have one of each to finish off the front of the mitten. The pattern is really easy to follow as was promised.

Mariella has started knitting a new baby sweater that is very cute. Unfortunately the free pattern is only available on Ravelry. I may have to CO this one, too. Now to find some really nice yarn....

It's a tropical heat wave.....

I got quite a bit of progress done on my Tropical Socks. I'm making them for Youngest Daughter and as a general rule, she only wears shorty socks. I remember why now, I never made any socks with this yarn. It's pretty, but it's not fun to work with. I did manage to CO with the circular needle and was proud of yet another new skill accomplished. One of the biggest benefits of using the circ for these is the ability to try them on without worrying about the sts slipping off the needles.

Today is Clue #2 of Mystery Mitten KAL. It includes cables and reading from a chart. We'll see... In theory I know how to do it, but we'll see...

My local library has a Summer Reading Program for adults as well as children and teens. I decided this summer to try it out. I agreed to read ten books by July 19th. I finished up my tenth book yesterday! I need to go to the library to pick up my prize of a $5 gift certificate to the local used bookstore. Here's my list:

The Tale of Holly How by Susan Wittig Albert

The Tale of Holly How by Susan Wittig Albert is the second of The Cottage Tales of Beatrix Potter series. A sweet cozy mystery that solves the accidental death and mayhem in the villages of Near and Far Surrey.

Beatrix, of course, helps solve the human mysteries, and myriad of animals including sheep, dogs, badgers, a Guinea pig named Tuppence, cats and rabbits band together to save a young mother badger and her babies.

A good read for anyone over the age of eight or so, although it's not marketed as a childrens' book.

And that's all the news that's fit to print. Nothing exciting happened yesterday other than it's hot and muggy. The temp is lower, but the humidity is up so it's still uncomfortable.

I finished up the socks to go with it last night. I used the Magic 28 charity sock pattern as a basis.
I may join this KAL...A mystery mitten KAL. Just thought it might be kind of fun. And I've joined Colin, the magical sock knitter's KAL, too. He has developed his own heel, the Andersson Heel. I think it's very attractive and I'd like to know how to do it. However, he knits toe up and I'm a cuff down person, so I'm stretching my boundaries. Will let you know how it goes.
