More Waffles!

I finished up the Mixed Berry Waffles for Youngest Grandson. They are drying as we "speak" and will get mailed off to him today. I then CO another pair, somewhat bigger as house socks for Eldest Grandson. Although it's hard to see in this pic, (click the pic to enlarge) I extended the stitch design down the front and down the heel. I did the sole in reverse st st to make them more comfortable around the house. Second sock was dutifully CO, cuff done and am ready to divide for heel flap. These are made from Red Heart Super Saver.Lookie what I won! Four skeins (@500 yards) of Mister Joe from Barbara Bretton over at Romancing the Yarn. Can't wait to see what it tells me it wants to be!

Jean says, "The radio says that there is snow in London today, the first time for such an event in October since 1934." The weather is changing....

Ideas for Holiday Shopping from Jamie Sue:

1. Can I make it? If you can then do it. You will enjoy the sense of accomplishment you get from meeting your own needs.

2. If I can't make it can I buy it from someone else who can? Buying handmade items from local craftsman is a GREAT way to not only expose yourself to a wider range of unique, quality products (no one ever admires a press board bookshelf from a big box store, but they will notice your handmade quilt or hand woven rug) but it is an excellent way to strengthen your local economy.

3. I can't find or afford the handmade version of the item I want. Can I buy it used? Buying used isn't just about being cheap, it helps the environment, supports the local economy, and allows you to purchase quality goods far below retail price. Instead of a 50$ flat pack dresser from Ikea that will survive a year or two invest check craigslist.org, freecycle.org, garage and yard sales, and thrift stores for a peice of real wooden furniture that will last ten years or more. Patience is a virtue and it will reward you with better goods at cheaper prices.

4. I can't find it used either! Now what do I do??? Now you can go shopping. Research the product you are shopping for and find the version that offers the highest quality within your price range. Visit local owned and operated businesses FIRST. If that fails then you can hit a national chain store.

Aren't they cute! Baby socks are so much fun!

From lamb to sweater.

Deception Point Deception Point by Dan Brown

rating: 5 of 5 stars
Great book, great story! I think this is probably better than The DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons.

Although it tackles yet another unprovable belief, this time extra terrestrial life, this one dwells in the world of science and, like the other books, human deception.

A huge meteorite, proving the existence of extra terrestrial life, is found above the Arctic Circle right before the United States Presidential elections. Incumbent canidate President Herny, a staunch supporter of NASA is challenged by Senator Sexton who promises to turn over space to private enterprise. The meteorite all but hands the election over to Herny, until it's discovered the meteorite is a fake.

Several civilian scientists find their lives in danger as greater powers try to cover up the scientific proof of the deception.

Thanks to Sean for sharing this gorgeous photo!

The Dobby Legwarmers are finished! Had Youngest Granddaughter try them on when I finished them in the morning, yesterday, and to the best of my knowledge she is still wearing them! She liked 'em!
Baby Socks were begun shortly there after! I'm calling them Mixed Berry Waffles.Pattern: Blueberry Waffle Socks
Needles: US 3
Left over Sock Yarn of unknown origin
Modifications: CO 40, 1.5 inch cuff
Joansie's made lots of socks from this pattern and has raved about it. I have to admit, she's right, it's a nice simple pattern that really looks nice.

Second Son and Third Grandson came by again yesterday. It's getting to be a regular Sunday visit. SS has to do his laundry somewhere, right? :) That's okay, cuz he cooked dinner last night.

Remember all those Mittnz and Hatz and Feetz I've made over the last year or so? Well maybe one of these charming youngsters will make use of them this winter. These are some of the kids from the Cheyenne River Reservation at Eagle Butte, SD.
Just found this blog. I can't vouch for content, as it's brand new to me, but I love the concept it's promoting!

Here's the new Harry Potter trailer! Fantastic!

I've been battling a sore jaw for several days, thinking I had some kind of tooth or ear infection. OTC pain killers really weren't helping at all anymore and I was thinking I'd have to break down and visit the doctor. Then I did a bit a research and It's not a tooth thing, it's a sinus thing. A couple of "real" Sudafed, a couple of plain old aspirin, and a hot pack brought enormous relief--more than anything else has. Now it's just a matter of stay well hydrated and keeping the sinus draining to clear it up. Hopefully I can bypass the antibiotics.
