Ain't it the truth.....

I have my grandmother's knitting book. Complete Guide to Modern Knitting and Crocheting. It was published in 1947 and among other things has patterns for military sweaters, men's swimming trunks.... You get my drift.

It also has a section on socks: To a beginner, the first finished sock is a landmark of achievement. The fledgling knitter usually feels that she has the world well won when she has jumped the hurdles of short rows, picked-up stitches, and decreases. Nor is she wrong in being proud of her achievement. For, when one sock has been finished successfully, any sock, stocking, or anklet may be produced without conscious effort, since men's, women's and children's footwear are all based on the same principle.
