Someone steered me to this blog and the patterns are well written for beginners and so gorgeous! I love the sock pattern, but don't miss the others on the left side and scroll down a bit!
I CO and finished the cuff on the second Tofutsies sock. It's getting easier to use the yarn, but I still don't consider it fun to knit with. However, the finished sock is so nice....
Yesterday was a truly uneventful day. The baby is sick so she slept the afternoon away. I took advantage of it by knitting and catching up on all the TV shows saved on my DVR. That little invention (TiVo, Moxibox, etc.) is the best thing since sliced bread. The absolutely best part, beyond being able to save shows, is the ability to FF through all the commercials. So when they go to commercial right at the cliff hanger...I can FF through the commercials in seconds and see who falls off the cliff! On and off in my life I've tried to deny my addiction to TV, but in my old age, I've just given in to it and enjoy it! In defense, I still read, knit, cook, clean, go out with friend(s). I just love having the TV on. I don't watch daytime TV at all...use the time to catch up on recorded shows or watch movies. (That's some kind of justification, I'm just not sure what kind!)
My daughter is taking me out for a pedicure today. It's been over a year since I've had one and I'm looking forward to smooth heels and pretty toes.

- Tofutsies #1 is Done!
-
Well the first Tofutsie is done! Ya know, for all the bitchin' about the yarn, the sock is absolutely divine! Soft, thin, stretchy..... :::heavy sigh::: The socks are so nice I may have to force myself to use more of the yarn. I hate when those kind of juxtapositions happen in my life!
Will CO next one this morning so Second Sock Syndrome (SSS) doesn't set in.
Wanted to show you a pic of a shawl I crocheted several years ago. All kinds of yarns...some handspun, recycle sari silk, wool blends....
I got a compliment at the Ren Faire for it and for my "Walkin' on Sunshine" socks! Makes a person feel good to have someone notice!

We had a good time at the Renaissance Festival. The grands had their faces painted. The baby sat perfectly still through the whole process. It was kinda amazing!

And this fellow is my favorite character at the Festival.

We got home early in the day for us, leaving the Festival around 1:00 instead of usual 5:00. My daughter had to work last night... That's okay, cuz F, his hubby and I are going again next month. As much as I like going with the kidlets, it's really nice to go with just adults!
Didn't buy much for myself. Got a leather cover for my whatever current paperback I'm reading. Nothing essential, but it just feels nice when I'm holding the book! And I got some healing cream called Skin Mend that I buy every year. It's great for anything that ails the skin and I found out yesterday is supposed to take pain away, too. I got it for the baby's eczema, but we use it for everything from diaper rash to sunburn.
Oh, knitting...almost forgot. Heel's finished on the Tofutsies and I got about a half inch done on the foot. Will work more on it today. I'll be glad when these are done. I have to admit, the sock feels exquisite... soft, stretchy, thin....but I'm just not sure that that's worth the difficulty of tiny slippery yarn!

- Looking Better....still too thin
-
Well, it looks better, the color is swirling around the sock rather than pooling on one half. It's still really not fun to knit with.
I've become accustomed to knitting with it. I'll finish these socks, but I'll not be buying any more Tofutsies.
We're heading off to the Renaissance Festival this morning.
We used to all dress up in garb to go, but that's just a little too much now! :) I should mention that we all used to be members of the Society for Creative Anachronisms (SCA). It was a lot of fun, 'till, as happens with many groups, the politics got to be too much! Enough said. So we still have some of costumes, but as we haven't unpacked much of stuff yet (another long story) after moving in last September, no costuming available.
I'm thinking I should consider working on some of my other knitting projects which all have been orphaned by the new sock knitting addiction....
I'm thinking thinking is all I do about it.
To be honest, I am afraid if I put the Tofutsies down I'll never pick them up again.

- Tofutsies
-
Starting new socks with Tofutsies, color 727, Tenderfoot, size 2 needles, pattern: Classic Socks for the Family, Yankee Knitter Designs.
I finished the cuff last night. I had to break down and have my daughter pick me up some Brittany DPNs yesterday because the yarn was really slipping off the metal ones I had been using. Of course, by the time I got them, it didn't make that big of a difference, but I'm assuming (as well as hoping and praying)
the first half inch of ribbing on the next sock will be much easier. That yarn is really slippery! And small. The yellow was what I used on my last socks, a fingering weight. The purple is the Tofutsies. And it calls for the same size needles...
I'm not happy with the color pooling either. The pic above is as it will look from the front, so I'm assuming one half the of sock with by purple and one half black....
And then of course the other sock will be totally different. That is okay, as I prefer fraternals over identicals.
The Bridge to Terabithia was really good. I know a lot of teachers were complaining that the book and movie weren't very related. But then, the books Shrek and Outside Overthere bare little resemblence to the respective movies Shrek and Labyrinth. I've not read Terabithia so all I can say was the movie was a good story. <
> Bring tissues! Speaking of Shrek, we saw a preview for Shrek the Third! Looks great! Had a nice visit with my grandsons. Hoping next time they can come over Friday night and stay till Sunday morning. We really didn't have a lot of time to "play" as by the time they got here, we had a sandwhich and then headed off to the movie. Got home at bed time.
