- Doby Socks + 1
-
The mismatch Doby socks are done! I finished them up last night while watching my regular Friday night shows: Ghost Whisperer, Close to Home, and Numbers. I think they are pretty cute, and look good on the model, too!
Here's the first sock of the Sock in a Day Challenge. I like the way they turned out, but are a bit snug for me, so may go in the "Gift Drawer".
My plan is to start the second sock today, but.... My oldest and youngest sons are coming over today. My oldest son is in a wheel chair as a result of a car accident in 1997.We'll hang out, watch TV/movies and probably end up playing Cribbage or some board game. So instead of a marathon knitting event, it may have to be the 18 hour version!
Did a bit of work on the hoodie I'm making for my grandson. Had to find something to do to keep from CO on the second sock!
I still have five or six inches before the back is done.
Those interested in free books may want to check out
Callapidder Days. Books up for grab! Libby
has a baby blanket that is really a work of art! Dances with Wools
has a lacy vintage pattern for muffatees. They'd really be pretty for "dress up" in the winter!

- Socks and socks and socks
-
Here's the first Doby Sock. I finished it up last night. The second one is CO and the heel shaping done.
Then there was the frogging. I realized I'd never have enough yarn to make two socks from the pink and white (Cherry Kool Aid), so I frogged back to within a couple rows of the cuff and am striping some Black Cherry Kool Aid in with it.
It's looking pretty good. Hopefully I'll be able to finish it up today. I'm about the same place I was yesterday morning. I was able to replace all the frogging while watching Zodiac with my son. What a stupid movie. I can see why it never made it in the theaters! Don't waste your time/money on it. Glad we got it as part of our free two weeks at Vongo.
Cindiluhu had this meme on her blog and I thought I'd share it. How about you doing it, too?

- Socks everywhere!
-
I got quite a bit of work done on the sock I CO on Tuesday. While watching TV I saw an ad for Vongo
so my son and I decided to try it out. Two weeks free, how can you go wrong? Well, the movie selection is really limited would be the first way; it appears only movies that have aired on Starz are available. Secondly, we could copy the movies to DVD, but they are only usable on the computer. Not the end of the world, but limiting to some degree. However.... I did find
The Night of the Living Dead. By today's standards, it's a pretty hokey movie. But one night way back in the fall of 1971, it scared the bejeebees out of me. It was the first horror flick I'd ever seen in the theater. When we came out, there were a group of "funny" guys outside the theater walking like zombies. AND, my dorm room, in one of the oldest buildings on the College of St. Benedict's campus, over looked the nun's cemetery.
It was not a restful night for me! Anyway, we downloaded it and watched it. For a small budget film...it's pretty good. Anyway, it provided some good sock knitting time! So, then when I went upstairs for the night, I was petting some small balls of yarn and thought about making some Doby socks. Now for the non-Harry Potter fans, Doby socks is another name for mismatched socks. Anyway, I took one ball and divided in half and CO on these child sized socks. When the variegated ran out, I divided a ball of turquoise and started the next section.
When it comes time to start the next sock, I'll throw the balls I've set aside into a bag, pick one out and CO. They'll both be made of the same yarn, but in different order! And speaking of using up bits of yarn, here's the
Magic 28 pattern.
Check out Shepherd Chick's blog
for some really neat pictures of future socks, sweaters and hats!
Knitman
has a gorgeous gansey on his blog. And some very unique washing instructions.... Knitterman
has definite proof the color of the yarn makes a difference! Necessity definitely is the mother of invention
It got very quiet in the house yesterday morning... I looked around and found YGD had decided to put herself down for a nap!
