Sock Yarns...

I read about people making socks using 000 ,00, 0, 1 or 2 US sized needles. OMG! I've tried and tried to do that but find it way too futzy for me. My smallest needle of choice is a 3. And love using two strands of sock yarn with a 4. Which makes for really expensive socks...

And something else occurred to me. I've made socks for Youngest Son out of sock yarn (with it's, what 25% nylon to extend the wear) and out of 25% wool/75% acrylic blends and he wears through both kinds equally fast. (Now that I've learned to darn, it's not the end of the world, but still). So, maybe sock yarn with it's extra nylon at extra cost isn't all that necessary.

So what the issue is, is that it's hard to find nice sport or ww weights in all the beautiful dyeing patterns to make those really gorgeous socks! Then I ran across Hill Country Yarns Instant Gratification on Turtlegirl's Bloggy Thing. It looks to be a nice worsted weight yarn available in 100% Merino or Superwash. Trouble is, they don't retail and none of the vendors listed, list Instant Gratification on their websites, so I can't even get an idea of how much it costs.....

Superwash is a factor for me. The only person I'd dare make hand wash only socks for is me, and even then I might be asking for disaster....

With all that said, I CO another pair of socks yesterday. It's the Art School sock yarn from Knitivity. Size 3 US needles. 56 sts. Garter Stitch "cuff". Looks like we'll have a nice spiral color design if the dyeing stays consistent.

It was a pretty uneventful day until 4:00 pm. Youngest Daughter has now succumbed to the stomach flu. Eldest Granddaughter was down with it for 24 hours. So, by evening the hope is Youngest Daughter will be feeling better.
I got some new yarn yesterday. I had a book up for sale or trade on Ravelry forever. Finally someone wanted it. I traded it for 6+ skeins of Reynolds Dover Washable Wool. The label doesn't give a specific weight, 15 sts, 20 rows = 4 in on #10 needles. Nine WPI which puts it in the ww range. It's a nice light blue color and will work well for socks or mittnz!
