Started a sweater....
Started a sweater.... magnify

Okay...I don't know what got into me to start a long term project, but, hey, I did! I have had it in the back of my mind to make my youngest son, 14, a hoodie. So...I thought I'd try a pattern and see how hard it would be. So, I chose this pattern at Lion Brand. <--click.

The pdf download has child through XXXL adult. Something for everyone! I'm doing it, not in cotton, but acrylic and I'm making a smaller size for one of my grandsons just to see how it goes. I also chose not to do the plain st st and substituted the July 11th pattern, Slipped Rid 2, from 365 Knitting Stitches a Year Perpetual Calendar. Because it incorporates slipped stitches, it really breaks up the color pooling of the variegated yarn. It almost looks like Indian Corn to me.

This yarn is really old. I got it from someone on Freecycle a couple years ago. It's Spundola Acrylic made by National Yarn Crafts (nope, I'd never heard of them either). But what really tells you how old it is, is the price. $.99 for 3 oz. And I've got at least 8 skeins of it....

So, that's what I did the most of yesterday. Didn't touch my sock and started a new hat. I decided I try something like the one Joansie's <--click doing. So using another variegated acrylic, I'm doing a panel to join together and then pick up sts to make the crown. It'll not be anything fancy like Joansie's...but I wanted to try the technique out.

I grabbed a crochet hook the other night and made a baby hat for Michelle.

It looks like a crocheted muffin doesn't it? I picked up sts around the bottom and added a ribbing. I'd forgotten how much faster crochet is than knitting, and how less pliable the fabric. Of course it'll loosen up some after being washed....
