Darn!

I finally insisted Youngest Song take off the Skully Socks I'd made for him. He loves them and wears them constantly. But they really needed to be washed....

So I did. And look what I found once they were clean! HOLES! So now were know where he wears them out...the balls of his feet and the heel flap. Guess who learns to darn this weekend! Glad I found that video last week. I have a vague idea on how to do this now!

BTW, these socks were made with Patons Shetland Chunky...which is like 75% acrylic.

Here's my progress pic on the Mickey Mouse Waterloose Sock 2. I have three more repeats on the pattern (5 rounds) and then start the st st for about 3 inches, then toe decreases. Really on the home stretch!

Well, after using my new MP3 player for a day, I've discerned that it doesn't hold a charge the way it's supposed to. I can get about 5 hours of continuous play and I should be getting around 9 hours. The 9 hours will pretty much cover my entire plane trip and 5 hours definitely won't. So, I'll return it today. Now that I think on it, this one was a return already. The container had been opened and taped up. I assumed it'd been opened and returned cuz it wasn't what the original purchaser wanted. I thought they (Target) had enough integrity not to put defective merchandise back on the shelf! Oh well, I'll get mine and maybe the Returns Clerk will put it in the defective bin instead of the restock bin.

Oldest and Youngest Son and I are going to see Jumper today. It's a good day for a movie: cold, raining and miserable! Nothing like a place to escape to!

Skully Sox

I made some progress on the skully sox yesterday. I'm working on the heel flap now, so if I work diligently it may be done in time for Santa's visit tonight.

All my local kids and grands had Christmas at my XDH's house last night. Glad I wasn't there
. Although the usual open warfare didn't erupt, lots of sniping going on. :::heavy sigh::: Given the choice between that and no Christmas, the grinch wins! Fortunately the little ones had a good time and that's what counts. I sent almost all the holiday knitting I did over to their and the box got forgotten until everyone was walking out the door. So I don't know if any of the seven pairs of slippers and one pair of socks fit anyone. And knowing my kids, I won't find out.... Ya know, I didn't raise them to act this way. Goes to show you how little of the positive things you teach stay with them.... Yes, Bah Humbug!

Talked with my son and DIL in TN and they are going to buy my plane tickets to visit them on New Year's Eve. The tentative dates are March 7-17 but it will depend on black out days and any other frequent flyer restrictions. But I get to go and that's all that counts!

Check out these sweaters....

Freezing Cold

It froze last night. And it's still below freezing outside according to the little icon on my computer. I think we may have lost our citrus fruit.... And I didn't get one grapefruit off the tree this year. (For those of you that live in the north and wonder what the big deal is about freezing, we rarely get that cold here in the southwestern deserts.)

I took this picture of the lemon tree that's outside the kitchen window. It's so heavy with fruit it almost blocks the view of the ugly concrete wall! The grapefruit tree is the trunk you can see at the bottom right corner.

I started a sweater for one of my grands. If you remember from last February, he's into pirates
. I wanted to make this sweater last year but didn't know how. Now I do! As you can see, the language barrier would have stopped me last year, too, but now having a basic idea of how to construct a sweater, and with my trusty pattern from Charmed Knits I can improvise. I sat watching Season 2 of Doctor Who and knit all those rows of black without a hitch. In fact, not paying attention to my knitting really kept my tension nice and even!

Now I need to put down the sweater and start the other Skully Sock! Christmas is just a few days away!

For those of you that have finished all your holiday knitting, here's a pattern for paper snowflakes...so you can make the nice six pointed ones. They really are very easy, once you know how to fold the paper!
