Bedsocks

My DIL's sister is having a baby this June. She asked for warm bed socks to wear at the hospital. Said, "The wilder the better!" They are finished. Two strands of acrylic for the legs and a strand of wool and acrylic for the feets. Should be plenty warm and hold up to a lot of wear. Certainly were a stash buster!

Had a very enjoyable weekend. Went out to Old Tucson on Saturday night with my BFF and his hubby. I hadn't been there in many many years so it was nice to see, despite a huge fire many years ago, not much has changed. We rode the train through the desert just a sundown which was very picturesque. The highlight of my evening was being able to get on and off the carousel horse with ease. Having tried that almost a year ago at Disneyland and struggling with it all, I feel confident I can not make a fool of myself if son and DIL in TN decide we're going horseback riding while we are there visiting!

Yesterday was aforementioned hubby's chorus concert. It was a hysterical risque poke at everyone entitled Make 'Em Laugh. I'm pretty much a prude and I never laughed so hard in my life!I had an old project sitting around...a pair of socks that just didn't fit. Foot too short and too big around. So I frogged the one finished sock back to the leg last night, and worked on the second sock to finish the leg. Now I'll figure out how many sts to decrease and finish them. They've been patiently waiting since last March...that is March 2008!

Of Carpets and Concerts

Not much knitting done yesterday. Instead we cleaned carpets. Not an equal exchange, but it's nice having clean floors. We rented a Mr. Steam cleaner from the local Safeway and boy have rented carpet cleaners changed. Smaller, lighter and easier to use!

Last night I went to the Reveille Men's Chorus concert with F. His hubby, B, is a member and we never miss a performanc. They are always good, and last night was no exception! The concert took on an international theme and we got to see multicultural groups from the area perform national dance and song. Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tahitian, Hawaiian, African, Irish and more as well as the chorus performing traditional pieces in the native languages. A very enjoyable evening. We went out for dinner after the concert and I stayed out later than I have in many, many years!

I did CO the second Art Sock and have a couple inches of the leg done. And there are two more pairs of Mariella's Wristers OTN. I took one with me to the concert to KIP and got quite a bit done during the first half. Afterthat I just wanted to watch the show. It's a nice skill, being able to knit without looking at one's knitting! And it doesn't look so bad, either!


So, who'd of not thunk of Mitten Blockers? Simple, easy, inexpensive!

A Good Year

While working on my sock yesterday, I watched my newest Netflix arrival, A Good Year. It was really an enjoyable movie. Over the years I've decided I really like Russell Crowe. He's not bad to look at, but I think he's a pretty good actor, too! Anyway, the movie isn't an emotional wrencher. However there are triumphs and let downs and I think it ends very well. I like movies that have endings. Not necessarily good endings, but endings. I really dislike movies that just quit filming and I'm left feeling robbed as there is no ending....

I made great progress on my sock...am past the heel decreases and beginning the foot. That's pretty good considering when I sat down yesterday morning, I had one inch of the "cuff" done.

I cast on a new hat when I finally moved "upstairs" last night. Got about two inches done of a simple wool hat. Four rows of garter stitch, then st st. Nothing special, but definitely warm.

Did a bit of obligatory housework...got the kitchen cleaned up and cleared up the back yard, too, as there was rumor of rain for yesterday. It was only a rumor, though. We did get a pretty good dry thunderstorm in the afternoon. The wind and cloud cover helped to cool things down, too.

I'm going to a concert today with F. His hubby, B, sings in one--and best--of the gay men's choruses in the area: Reveille <--click They have the best concerts! I look forward to their two or three performances a year.

And from surfing the blogs: These really cool recycled flip flops. <--click Now, me being me, knitting the tops would be way too much work, when I can crochet them much quicker. So....it's on my list of things to try out. I think it would be way cool to figure out a way to extend the tops up with cuffs. They would make really cool indoor/outdoor house shoes. And even extend to "run to the grocery store" shoes!
