Another Sock....

I know you are all getting sick and tired of me talking about socks. I almost am....but they are so much fun! I cast on with the orange/yellow KA dyed yarn and got the heel turned and am in the midst of the gusset now. (OMG, I talk like I know what I'm talking about!!!! Wait I do know what I'm talking about!) It is so much fun to learn and master a new skill.

So the knitting thing... I was wallowing in the wonderful rhythm of just knitting in the round yesterday, and was again amazed at how much knitting affects my mind, body, and spirit. Relaxation.... And the magic of it all. Seriously, this is especially true about socks, I think. Take a look at a knitted sock. It has ribbing in the round, the plain knitting. Not so spectacular. Then look at the heel. There are stitches going in all directions, straight, angles, just seeming to appear out of nowhere disappear again, and some continue on to make the rest of the sock. And the toes seem to just grow smaller... And it's all one piece of yarn. "Things come and go so quickly here," said Dorothy of Oz. And so it is with a sock....

Oh Yeah....

I over dyed the purple/grape from yesterday's pic with some black cherry. It's darker and purplier than regular black cherry, which is to be expected I guess!

I finished one Pedicure Sock and am pleased with how it turned out. I've got about three inches done on the second one. Found out my daughter really was upset I was using the yarn as she liked it so much she wanted to make something out of it. Guess the next time she has a day off we'll have to make some more!

You've heard me talk about my best friend, F. Here is his blog, Little Cricket, and a pic of the Pinwheel Sweater he's making for his MIL. Isn't it gorgeous? And it's probably been frogged so many times we could populate at least three ponds! F's a perfectionist. I am, too, but I give myself more permission to have boo-boos that he does.

Well, I didn't do as much housekeeping yesterday as I should have, but I did do some. Guess I'll work a bit on it today....and then again maybe not. My daughter gets off early today so I'm planning on making a run to the library. I may or may not have jury duty on Tuesday and I want to have a good book with me if I have to spend the day there. On the website for jury duty it says: Anything considered to be a weapon or that is deemed unacceptable by Security, will be confiscated and/or dealt with appropriately. So I don't know if my knitting needles will be considered weapons or not. And it's up to the discretion of whoever is on duty that day. Maybe if I have something on my plastic Denise's I won't have to worry. Now, what to knit? What to knit?

Oh, remember a few days ago I said I'd recorded Nora Roberts' Angel Falls on Lifetime? I watched it last night. Yup, I'm glad I read the book first (and it's well worth the read). As usual, too much info to put in the movie and lots was left out. However, I can't tell if someone hadn't read the book if they'd "get" the movie. There is another Nora Roberts movie on this week, Montana Sky which I recently finished (and was good, too). I've set up the DVR to record it. I'm sure it'll be a typical Lifetime movie which means it's not all that well done, but.... something to listen to while I knit.

Dyeing again....

Spent most of the day with my best friend, F, yesterday. We had to make a run to the local LYS so I picked up three skeins of white wool so I could show F how to dye with Kool Aid. Pic above is our results. The purple really needs to be overdyed. I don't like the colors with grape KA. See if I have some blue or red to overdye it today.

F had BO his pinwheel sweater but it was waaaaay too tight of a bind off. So he undid the BO and I suggested he use a bigger needle to BO with. He did and it worked like a charm. When I left he was picking out the sts from the afterthought heel technique to start the sleeves.

I got about three rows done on the sock flap. Today I start the short rows to shape the heel.

I'd made my son, Z, (pic on yesterday's post) a roll brim hat. He didn't really like it as it was too loose, but really needed the wool hat as he works outside early in the morning and/or late at night when it's still in the mid-30s or low 40s. So, I found a similar color of Encore and added ribbing to it for him. The "seam" where I picked up the sts, makes a natural folding point if he wants the ribbing folded up, and hardly shows if he doesn't. I am really pleased with how it turned out.

Oh, I did the grocery shopping yesterday. Twice. My daughter decided she needed to go before I dropped her off so I could take the car to F's. My knee woke me up every time I moved last night and is really tender today. It doesn't hurt to walk or drive (standard transmission) but it sure hurts now. Guess it's a good thing I can sit (after I finish the housework) for the rest of the day and knit! Which would make it different from any other day, how???

Kool Aid Socks - 1st Socks

Here's the sock I cast on from my Kool Aid yarn:

Yes, Joansie, I cast on a sock! Aren't you proud of me? My sock envy got the better of me! I think they are going to be pedicure socks but that may change.... Anyway, I'm really happy with how the dye job is translating into a knitted item.

I finished up the skull and cross bones wash cloth for my grandson's pirate birthday cache. It hasn't been washed or blocked yet so the picture is hard to see.

My autistic grandson, K, was over for a quick visit last night. The pic is of K and my son, Z. K is such a sweetie...I just wish I could spend more time with him. His mother doesn't allow me to see him, so my time with him is stolen time when my son figures she can't find out about it. Very sad, but.... whatcha gonna do?

Today's my day out with my best friend, F. I get to go knit for the day. I'll have the car today, tho, so maybe we'll go out. He's running into problems with his Pinwheel Sweater, tho.....

With the help of Michelle steering me to information here I was able to put a pic in the text of my blog! Of course I had to open a Flickr account, but it's a small price to pay to be able to put pics in the text of my blog!

BTW, this is a pic of my granddaughter wearing the beret I made for her mother in October. It's made of superwash wool that I dyed with Kool Aid after it was finished. Strawberry/Watermelon I think.
