Chris sent me some half-hexies to finish off the blanket. I'm determined to get it all out, sit down and begin to get these connected to the blanket today. Some of my crochet mojo has returned. I was looking for a hostess gift to take with me on my trip to TN to visit Third Son, DIL and Youngest Grandson in a couple weeks. I found this neatpattern Hyperbolic Pseudosphere Scrubbie on and thought it was just unique enough to make the grade. It couldn't be simpler, doesn't take long to do and really is kind of fascinating. I think one made out of acrylic would make great cat and dog toys, too.I have reached the first 100 days of my new life style. I started exercising on the Wii Fit 100 days ago on February 2nd. I haven't missed a day of exercise and diet awareness.
On January 21st I weighed 247 lb.s On Feburary 2nd I weighed 243.2. Today I weighed in at 213.4. I have gone down about 2.5 sizes in clothes. The new clothes I bought a few weeks ago are starting to get looser. My watch needs a link removed, my rings fit again, and I can run up the stairs to my room. In January I had to pull myself up the stairs, and couldn't carry more than a bottle of water. Now I can carry full loads of laundry up and down. I have had a good 100 days.
These are Mittnz 3, 2009. Pattern: Lifeline Mittens. The yarn is one of the Patton's 100% wool products. Needle: US5. Size: 8-10 year old child. These mittens are much faster than regular mittens with a gusset due to the unique nature of the thumb gusset.Received another package of Hexies in the mail yesterday. I have about half the half hexies I need to finish up the first blanket. Hopefully, I'll be able to get more done on that today. Been a crazy week again and I feel like I haven't been home at all!
Except I'm still crocheting.... I've added another round of hexies to this blanket. It's wide enough to cover a single bed, so from here on in, I'll only be adding length to it. Then adding a border all around. Pretty pretty for a communal scrap project, don't you think?Received pics last night of egg dyeing in Tennessee. Can't wait to get there in a few weeks!
I've received so many Hexies from the ladies at Native American Support. I began the joining process yesterday. Because the hexies were made by various people, they varied in size. So many of them have cream or black borders while some are "just right" and have no borders at all. These are are all the cream ones sewn together. My plan is to next border this section with a round or two of hexies that have black borders. That should make it wide enough. Then I will continue to add black bordered hexies to each end to add lenght and then add non bordered hexies to add more length. Of course, I need to lay it out and see if that will work. I'm sure I'll have hexies left over to start another blanket!
This is my newest knitting WIP. These are just pics of what I hope mine will look like when I'm done. It's Ann Budd's Modern Kimono in the January/February 08 issue of Piecework. It was at the bottom of a big box of yarn I received from a lady at Native American Support. I instantly fell in love with it. Mine will be burgundy. And a bit longer than these. The pattern says 11.5 inches from bottom to underarms, but I think I need it to be longer than that. Maybe 15-16 inches. Even though I'm finally finding my waistline these days, I'm still not so sure a "crop" top is a good idea for me! I really like the cable ribbing on the bottom, and the edging along the front and neckline. St st from picked up sts that rolls back! Very pretty design! Tornadoes hit down in Mufreesboro, TN, about 45 minutes from where my son and his family live. Bad news....fortunately my family is all okay.
And the downward spiral of unemployment has hit our family on a personal note. Number two son was laid off yesterday from the small family owned business he's been working for for several years.... I haven't talked to him, so I don't know what his plans are. For him, even in good economic times, finding work is hard. He's on the autistic spectrum, is a non-reader, and needs someone to give him just a little more time occassionaly at work. With all the "normal' people out of work....well, I don't think it'll be easy for him. But, he's a constant source of amazement to me, so maybe it'll work out....
Health news-I've lost 21 lbs since February 2; 90 pounds to go. I found out the scale at the doctor's office was off from mine by about 5 lbs. So I decided to only use the numbers from my Wii Fit. Which means I've lost less weight, but my "old" clothes are getting looser and looser. Oh, and I have a waist line now! Much of what I've been wearing is just way too big now. My blood pressure is down to 114/74. It was like 130 over something in February. I don't know what my cholesterol numbers are, but will find out next month. My blood sugars are completely within the normal ranges about 98% of the time. Occasionally I will have low blood sugar when I get up in the morning, but only once a week or so. All in all, it's all good news.
Lots of fiber work to report this week. I had a really hectic week and needed one of those mind numbing brain dead knitting projects. It's my favorite mitered square pattern. Cast On 3 Knit 1, Yarn Over, Place Marker, K1, PM, YO, K1 Knit even K to marker, YO, Slip Marker, K1, SM, YO, K to end Knit even Repeat last two rows until size required. Change colors whenever you desire. I also threw in a purl row at color change and to break up the bigger blocks of one color. It's a great pattern to create a perfectly square blanket. I'm thinking of adding a cable into it...wouldn't that be a great blanket to have cables running out at right angles from the center? One would start the cable right after the YOs. Must experiment....I found out yet another baby is to be born into our extended family this summer. I decided to make a hat and pair of newborn socks for this one. Hat's done, socks are a WIP. Teeny tiny socks are such fun! Youngest Son turned 17 yesterday. Where does the time go? I started these socks but lost my sock knitting mojo. They'll get done eventually (he's very patient with me) and in the mean time I got him some Microsoft Points for his XBox so he can download yet more songs for Guitar Hero. If he agrees to wear these socks as is, it'll be quite a big step for him...moving away from khaki pants, black shirts and socks. If not, I do know how to dye them! I refuse to make black socks. It's just too hard to see the sts. So, I'll make them in a nice yarn I like to work with and then dye them for my ultra conservative sons! The spiral blanket is finished up. It was fun to make. Pattern: Spiral Simplicity Doily Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver Hook: H This is a very easy pattern to follow and memorize. I marked the dc where the increases were on each section which made it much easier to do while watching TV or listening to my books. I've been crocheting some more....so have a bunch of others. We are making Hexagons, following the tutorial Lucy created at Attic24. I am going to assembled the hexies into a blanket or two to send on to the Cheyenne River Reservation. More people have promised Hexies and well, if you'd we'd be tickled for your contribution. Just leave a comment and your e-mail and I'll send you a mailing address! Ruca, yarn made from sugar cane stalks after the sugar's removed. A bit pricey for my standards, but seems to be about the same as corn, soy and bamboo fibers.
I spent almost all day yesterday organizing my stash. I wanted a variety of colors to make the hexies and knew, somewhere, I had a stash of little balls of yarn. So I went digging. OMG. I have so much yarn.... I'm not a big yarn buyer, and much of what I have has been gifted to me for charity work, including another big box I received yesterday from one of the gals over at Native American Support. OMG. I have so much yarn....
I got a lot of it out of a trunk that was hard to get into. It's all stacked up in clear bins so I can see the colors and know where to look for what I want. It's a good think I like making multicolored things as I really don't have enough skeins of any one color to make anything! All in all, though, I feel good having gone through and organized everything so I have a clearer picture of what I have and where it is!
