The Dobby Legwarmers are finished! Had Youngest Granddaughter try them on when I finished them in the morning, yesterday, and to the best of my knowledge she is still wearing them! She liked 'em!
Baby Socks were begun shortly there after! I'm calling them Mixed Berry Waffles.Pattern: Blueberry Waffle Socks

Modifications: CO 40, 1.5 inch cuff
Joansie's made lots of socks from this pattern and has raved about it. I have to admit, she's right, it's a nice simple pattern that really looks nice.

Second Son and Third Grandson came by again yesterday. It's getting to be a regular Sunday visit. SS has to do his laundry somewhere, right? :) That's okay, cuz he cooked dinner last night.


Remember all those Mittnz and Hatz and Feetz I've made over the last year or so? Well maybe one of these charming youngsters will make use of them this winter. These are some of the kids from the Cheyenne River Reservation at Eagle Butte, SD.

I've been battling a sore jaw for several days, thinking I had some kind of tooth or ear infection. OTC pain killers really weren't helping at all anymore and I was thinking I'd have to break down and visit the doctor. Then I did a bit a research and It's not a tooth thing, it's a sinus thing. A couple of "real" Sudafed, a couple of plain old aspirin, and a hot pack brought enormous relief--more than anything else has. Now it's just a matter of stay well hydrated and keeping the sinus draining to clear it up. Hopefully I can bypass the antibiotics.

Just a few inches left on the second legwarmer. It was a lazy day yesterday and I spent a lot of time reading rather than knitting. Normally I could do both, especially with brainless knitting like this. But I was upstairs as I really wasn't interested in listening to Saturday cartoons. I don't have a desk or table in my room to prop my book up on like I do downstairs. So it was a day of alternating reading and knitting.

Dragon Harper by Anne McCaffrey

It was nice to be back on Pern, but something was different. This book was written by Anne and son Todd, but I think either Anne is slipping or Todd did most of the writing. It has the same style, to some degree, but it read more like fanfic than anything else.

The attention to details wasn't there. Words like pencils, paper, and antiperspirant appeared in the story several times. Earlier Pern books were careful of details such as this.

The book was very dependent on the reading knowing Pern, and understanding the culture. If this was someone's first introduction to Pern, nothing would impel further exploration of this fascinating world. As annoying as it is for die hard fans, the new reader must have the details that bring them up to speed so the saga can be understood.

I was disappointed.

Finished up the first leg warmer and have the first inch of ribbing done on the second.

Got an e-mail from DIL yesterday and she said GS#4 needs more socks! :) So after I finish up the other legwarmer, it's little socks! And maybe learning a new technique!

But, as I can't sculpt worth diddly, I may have to settle for sweets! Yes, those are sewing pins! Hmmm and she can do any shape....

Looking for something challenging, I decided to try Elizabeth Zimmerman's Pi Are Squared Shawl from Knitting Around. I have no idea what the yarn is as it's something I got in a bag of yarns from another knitter. It's a natural animal fiber, nice and soft :). There isn't enough for the shawl, but I have another big skein from a project I'm ready to frog if I decide to keep going. I'm using US4 needles. Knitting things from EZ is an act of faith in itself. Her directions are brief and sometimes cryptic, but with several deep breaths and the belief, "I can do this!" most of them are doable with out an interpreter! I except if you knit enough of them you begin to read in Zimmerese!

This is one of an unfinished pair of Dobby Socks that have become legwarmers for Youngest Granddaughter. It's a bit chilly in the morning waiting for the bus at 8:00. I'm waiting to try it on her to see if the length is good.

Amber had a thought this morning and steered to a very important story.
