Knittin' & Hookin'

Lots of fiber work to report this week. I had a really hectic week and needed one of those mind numbing brain dead knitting projects. It's my favorite mitered square pattern.

Repeat last two rows until size required. Change colors whenever you desire. I also threw in a purl row at color change and to break up the bigger blocks of one color. It's a great pattern to create a perfectly square blanket. I'm thinking of adding a cable into it...wouldn't that be a great blanket to have cables running out at right angles from the center? One would start the cable right after the YOs. Must experiment....I found out yet another baby is to be born into our extended family this summer. I decided to make a hat and pair of newborn socks for this one. Hat's done, socks are a WIP. Teeny tiny socks are such fun!
Youngest Son turned 17 yesterday. Where does the time go? I started these socks but lost my sock knitting mojo. They'll get done eventually (he's very patient with me) and in the mean time I got him some Microsoft Points for his XBox so he can download yet more songs for Guitar Hero. If he agrees to wear these socks as is, it'll be quite a big step for him...moving away from khaki pants, black shirts and socks. If not, I do know how to dye them! I refuse to make black socks. It's just too hard to see the sts. So, I'll make them in a nice yarn I like to work with and then dye them for my ultra conservative sons! The spiral blanket is finished up. It was fun to make. Pattern: Spiral Simplicity Doily
Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver
Hook: H
This is a very easy pattern to follow and memorize. I marked the dc where the increases were on each section which made it much easier to do while watching TV or listening to my books.
I've been crocheting some more....so have a bunch of others. We are making Hexagons, following the tutorial Lucy created at Attic24. I am going to assembled the hexies into a blanket or two to send on to the Cheyenne River Reservation. More people have promised Hexies and well, if you'd like to help out we'd be tickled for your contribution. Just leave a comment and your e-mail and I'll send you a mailing address!
Ruca, yarn made from sugar cane stalks after the sugar's removed. A bit pricey for my standards, but seems to be about the same as corn, soy and bamboo fibers.

I spent almost all day yesterday organizing my stash. I wanted a variety of colors to make the hexies and knew, somewhere, I had a stash of little balls of yarn. So I went digging. OMG. I have so much yarn.... I'm not a big yarn buyer, and much of what I have has been gifted to me for charity work, including another big box I received yesterday from one of the gals over at Native American Support. OMG. I have so much yarn....

I got a lot of it out of a trunk that was hard to get into. It's all stacked up in clear bins so I can see the colors and know where to look for what I want. It's a good think I like making multicolored things as I really don't have enough skeins of any one color to make anything! All in all, though, I feel good having gone through and organized everything so I have a clearer picture of what I have and where it is!

I really am glad you're commenting. Please make sure I can find you by insuring you leave an e-mail address. It's so frustrating to have someone ask a question and no way to answer them! Thanks!
