Socks and Books

All done but the heel. I'm going to wait and do both heels at the same time with the same yarns. I'm not exactly sure why, but that's the plan at this point.

The kids go back to school on Monday. I'm so going to miss my limitless uninterrupted computer time in the mornings. However, I'm not going to miss the squabbling and child boredom. I will enjoy the three hours of silence four mornings a week while Youngest Granddaughter is in school. Trade offs....

Many people must have made regular blogging a New Year's Resolution. My reader is coughing up over 100 entries per day now instead of the 60-75 in November and December!

If you like Gary Larson's The Far Side, you'll enjoy these.

Cold hands? Make these handwarmer gloves using hand made or store bought gloves or mittens. I'd change it velcro or snap the inserts in so the gloves or mittens could be washed.

Keeping the "We" in "Yes, We Can!"

We were discussing the reading challenges, mainly 100 books in a calendar year in one of my groups. Someone said, "I think I am up for it also, although it will encroach on knitting!"

My reply:
Audio books. The libraries are meeting the demands of the customers and there are many of them extending their selection of them.

Many of the libraries also have free audio downloads from Overdrive
http://www.overdrive.com/ and NetLibrary http://www.netlibrary.com/
in MP3 format or WMA format that can be listened to on MP3 players or
computers. Although the following places won't have the newest books
on the Top Ten lists, they do have a variety of classical and the like.

I love sitting down with some well memorized pattern, socks, blankets, hats, (hmmmm, ring a bell?) and knit and listen to great books, fun books, mysteries, romances and end up with something useful as well as the escape books provide. It's not the same as curling up with a book
in print, which I do, too. Audio books do provide the opportunity to keep knitting, do housework, take a walk, drive, while being entertained and perhaps even learning something!

  1. Good idea to knit the heels at the same time....saves trying to make sure both are the same.

Those handwarmers are just so cool!!!...oops..hot!!!!

  2. I'm so excited at your great list of free audio book downloads! You rock, Lizzie. I used to just listen in the car but since my husband canceled the TV service, we've been happily listening to books every evening.

I really am glad you're commenting. Please make sure I can find you by insuring you leave an e-mail address. It's so frustrating to have someone ask a question and no way to answer them! Thanks!
